Our Samoan culture, customs, and traditions emphasize the importance of the extended family, the “aiga”. We also consider this island to be sacred. Our lands, waters, and food sources are managed to sustain them for the future. In commemoration of National Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we share with you the Samoan culture which has been around for 3,000 years. Starting this week, we will share more about Samoan culture to highlight one of the many Asian American and Pacific Island cultures that makes up our diverse nation.

To kickstart this month’s celebration, we bring you a Samoan group who are singing an island rhythm as part of local festivities. For any celebration in American Samoa, song and dance are integral to our Samoan way!

Manuia.
