The Beauty of Samoan Taualuga

Traditional Samoan taualuga or ending performance.

The taualuga is the final performance of any Samoan dance group. It signals the conclusion of a performance which involves a taupou (chief’s daughter), manaia (chief’s son), or the chief dancing in front while the rest of the group sings and sways in the background.

It is quite the spectacle, as the audience joins the performing group in dance as a show of appreciation for their performance. We hope you’ve enjoyed learning more about Samoan culture this past month as part of National Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
