Life on Stilts

October 29, 2010

An endangered Hawaiian stilt in its native wetland home. Their are only about 1400 of these unique Hawaiian birds left. As human encroachment destroys their native habitat, it will become more and more difficult for these fascinating birds to survive. Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park on Hawai`i Island is one of the few places left that you can find these creatures. (USDA Photo)
