Kamehameha the Great commissioned and built this religious structure to fulfill a prophecy to unify the islands under one ruler. This is still an active cultural heritage site with practitioners coming for a yearly festival and celebration of Hawaiian unity.

Ranger Greg explores the nuances and meanings behind the word “Heiau” and sheds light on this special location on the Island of Hawai’i considered by many the birthplace of the Hawaiian kingdom.
