Aloha flags

The annual Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park Ohana Day occurred on Saturday February 22. In recognition of the blue ocean trails of Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail, participants were invited by trail staff to make “peace” flags. People, ages 4 1/2 to 80, from Alaska, Illinois, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Mexico, New Hampshire, Japan and Hawaii put their hands to the task.

Flying in the wind

The flags will be given to the voyaging canoe, Hokule‘a, for distribution during her worldwide voyage. The messages of aloha created on a National Historic Trail in a National Historical Park in Hawaii will be shared around the world.
